The 30,000-square-foot museum houses artifacts that were salvaged from Arabia, a steamboat that sank in the Missouri River back in 1856. The remaining steamboat cargo was buried in a cornfield, where it rested for 132 years until it was recovered by a group of self-proclaimed treasure hunters. The museum collection includes hundreds of thousands of items that were intended for daily life on the frontier, along with the opportunity to watch live restorations by skilled team members of different items. The Arabia Steamboat Museum is located inside City Market, making it a great place to visit if you are browsing the Farmer’s Market or any of the restaurants and shops.
